Den Gode Nabo – lekteren (The Good Neighbour – The Barge)

When the barge at Den Gode Nabo, or “Nabo’n” as they call it, is back on the River Nidelva, it means that summer has arrived in Trondheim. The sun shines practically all day long there, there is a view of Nidaros Cathedral, the wharf buildings along the river bank and Bakklandet; and you can enjoy food and drink there from morning to evening. Den Gode Nabo has one of the widest selections of beers in Trondheim.

Antikvariatet (The Antiquarian)

Only a few metres away from Nabo’n we find Antikvariatet, offering a wide range of drinks and nicely sheltered outdoor service. The outdoor seating at Antikvariatet is not in the sunniest part of the city, but the sun does shine there for a few hours a day. Here, you will be seated slightly lower than street level and can watch tourists and locals passing by in the pedestrian precinct, while you relax with a nice cool drink. Here, too, they offer a wide range of beers. Follow Antikvariatet on Facebook.

Bakgården Bar and Eatery

Bakgården tapas and pizza restaurant includes a sheltered backyard with large parasols and a pleasant atmosphere. Bakgården always uses fresh ingredients of the highest quality and local suppliers wherever possible, and you can enjoy your meal inside or out.

Solsiden – Dokkparken

The Solsiden district is Trondheim’s oasis when it comes to bars, cafes and restaurants, and practically all of them have plenty of sunshine. Here, you can either enjoy a good drink and a tasty meal or just sit with a cup of coffee and watch the passers by. Among the places you definitely should check out are Bare Blåbær and Bar Passiar at Dokkhuset.

Olavs Pub og Spiseri

In the same building as the cinema, Nova Kinosenter, in Cicignons Plass, we find Olavs Pub og Spiseri, with a varied menu and a small, but pleasant area for outdoor service. From time to time concerts and stand-up shows are arranged here, something which you may like to see after a few hours in the open air.

Ni Muser (Nine Muses)

Café Ni Muser has been Trondheim’s number one art cafe since 1991, and is an informal culture café with emphasis on good food and drink. In the “backyard” there is a large area offering outdoor service, and a view of Nidaros Cathedral, where you can enjoy yourself both morning and evening in pleasant company.

Cafe Løkka

Cafe Løkka claims to make the world’s best milkshake, and we can see no reason to disagree. They also have a wide variety of beers and one of the city’s biggest outdoor seating areas. Løkka is a great place to enjoy the summer sunshine.

Vertshuset Grenaderen (The Grenadier Inn)

Vertshuset Grenaderen is near the Archbishop’s residence and Nidaros Cathedral, and is one of Trondheim’s most distinctive eating places. The outdoor seating area is like a green lung in the heart of the city, with a marvellous view of Marinen Park and the River Nidelva.

Ramp Pub & Spiseri (Ramp Pub & Eatery)

At Svartlamon in the heart of Trondheim, you will find Ramp Pub & Spiseri. In a laid back, 1950’s style atmosphere you are served good and reasonably priced food and drink. Drinks may, of course, be enjoyed without the food, in the outdoor seating area if you like, where you can also enjoy the sunset over the beautiful Dora.

Baklandet Skydsstasjon (Baklandet Station)

Ever since 1860, business has been done on the premises which now house one of Trondheim’s cosiest bars/restaurants, Baklandet Skydsstasjon. Good drink and wholesome food are an integral part of Skydsstasjonen’s brand, and there is outdoor seating both out on the pavement and in the sheltered gateway.

Ila Brainnstasjon (Ila Fire Station)

Ila Brainnstasjon is a neighbourhood culture café near Ilaparken. They offer a basic hot and cold meal service and a wide variety of drinks. They now have a new outdoor seating area on the pavement, and in the back yard you can get a little bit higher up, closer to the sun, and enjoy the peace and quiet, the sunshine and something to your liking in your glass.
